Built in 2024, and designed for a weekend that doesn't ask anything of you.

The Decker Way

One strong building. One clear ritual — heat, cold, stillness. The discipline to leave the rest alone. Sixteen acres, a wood stove, and a sauna are enough for a weekend.

Amenities

The Great Room

0108

The Great Room

An open volume running the length of the first floor. Light oak floors, a double-height cathedral ceiling, a kitchen island anchoring the long axis, and a wood stove for the long evenings.

The Kitchen

0208

The Kitchen

Light oak cabinetry, blackened concrete counters, and a gas range. A north window over the sink frames the ridge — coffee, dishes, and the basics, what guests actually use.

The Primary Suite

0308

The Primary Suite

Ground floor, at the rear of the house. A large window holds the mountain ridge to the north — the morning light enters here first.

The Loft

0408

The Loft

Sixteen by nineteen feet on the second floor, looking down on the great room. A floor-to-ceiling window over the ridge anchors the room.

The Sauna

0508

The Sauna

An infrared sauna on the back deck, cedar-housed and glass-faced toward the field. The first stop in the heat-and-stillness ritual.

The Deck

0608

The Deck

Patio and deck under the south face, opening onto the field. The mountain ridge sits to the north; the woods, to the south.

The Grill

0708

The Grill

A Napoleon gas grill at the edge of the patio, facing the field. Summer dinners happen outside — the firepit takes over after dark.

The Firepit

0808

The Firepit

A firepit ringed with Adirondack chairs on a gravel circle, facing the open field and the ridge to the north. The gathering point after dark — the last hour of light, then the fire.

Where You Are

Stamford sits at 2,170 feet — the highest incorporated village in New York State — at the base of Mount Utsayantha. In the 1880s it was nicknamed the “Queen of the Catskills.” Today it has a real Main Street with a coffee roaster, an outpost, and an antique shop.

The West Branch of the Delaware River, Hobart's bookshops, Roxbury, and the Pakatakan farmers market are fifteen to twenty-five minutes out. Hunter Mountain, Belleayre, and Plattekill ski areas are about an hour. JFK and LaGuardia are two and a half hours by car.
